A shocking slump continued when the Swift Current 57’s lost 7-5 to the visiting Weyburn Beavers Tuesday. The 57’s have now lost five of their past six games, especially surprising considering the slump was preceded by a five-game winning streak.

Bobby St. Pierre took the loss after allowing eight hits, four walks, and five runs, though only two were earned, over 4.1 innings.

A four-run fourth inning was the difference when the Beavers took advantage of wild pitches, errors, and missed defensive opportunities to jump ahead. The Beavers scored in three of the next four innings to stretch the lead before the 57’s made a game of it with home runs from Blake Adams and Ben Andrews in the bottom of the ninth.

Riley Campbell was on base twice with a single and a hit by pitch and stole three bases to take over the league league lead with 18 in as many games on the season. Matt Bondarchuk, Nick Canas and Grant Van Scoy also added two-hit outings.
