The Swift Current 57’s made some timely plays to secure a 6-1 win over the visiting Yorkton Cardinals.

The 57’s improved to 7-3 on the season with three sacrifice flies to help manufacture a win over an Eastern Division rival.

Bobby St. Pierre got the win after allowing only five hits, two walks, and one earned run while striking out six over seven innings.

Layne Downing and Trey Taylor added scoreless innings in relief to close out the win.

The 57’s took an early lead when Blake Adams doubled home Matt Bondarchuk in the first inning. They added the eventual winning run in the fourth inning when Ben Andrews singled home Nick Canas. They added a second run in the inning when Grant Van Scoy brought in Mason Brown. The two-run inning was set up by a perfect sacrifice bunt from Bodie Cooper to advance both Brown and Canas to second and third base. Cooper added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to plate Canas, who finished three-for-four with two runs and two stolen bases.

They added a fifth run in the seventh inning when Cole Thibideau led off with a triple and scored on a Bondarchuk sacrifice fly. The speed of Riley Campbell resulted in the final run later in the inning when he stole second and third base and then Adams bought him home with another sacrifice fly.

The 57’s are off to Melville to face the Millionaires on Saturday.
