The Swift Current 57’s suffered their first loss of the Western Major Baseball League season 4-2 to the visiting Lethbridge Bulls Wednesday.
The battle between two unbeaten teams tilted in the third inning when a Brock Frentzel bases loaded double cleared the bases as a part of a four-run inning.
The 57’s replied in the bottom of the inning when Riley Campbell tripled home Matt Bondarchuk for their first run. Kiel Krumwiede homered to leadoff the ninth inning but that was as close as the home team would get.
Bobby St. Pierre took the loss after allowing six hits, one walk, and four runs while striking out five over seven innings. Sean Chandler and Garrett Goodall each added scoreless relief appearances for the 57’s.
Greg Hollman scattered seven hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven without allowing a walk in the win for Lethbridge.
Swift Current fell to 4-1, while Lethbridge improved to 5-0 to lead all WMBL teams.
The 57’s won’t have to wait long to get back into the win column as they host the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Mitchell Field.
