Eight Swift Current United Soccer Club teams were in Saskatoon to take part in the Harder Avalon Classic over the weekend.
The United U12 girls won gold in Division III with four wins and a draw. They opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over Saskatoon Eastside Sevilla and then tied Saskatoon’s Hollandia Durette 0-0. The U12 girls added a 2-1 win over Eastside Athletico and then advanced to the gold medal match with a 5-4 win over Eastside Sevilla. They rematched with Hollandia Durette and won 2-1 in the championship match.
The U18 United girls competed in the U20 Division and placed second with a 2-1-1 record. They opened the season with a rematch of last year’s provincial final and defeated Yorktown United 4-0. Rebecca Treen scored twice, while Brooke Vallee and Jessica Warren added singles. Ali Vance assisted on three of the goals, while Amy Neufeld set up the other goal and Hannah Dyck earned the shutout in goal.
The United girls tied the Phantom Lake Fury 1-1 on Saturday evening. Vance scored the lone goal with an assist from Cassie Barber. They concluded the round robin Sunday morning with a 5-0 win over Battlefords United FC. Vance scored three goals and added an assist. Vallee scored the other two goals and Warren added a single helper.
Swift Current rematched with Yorkton in the championship match and lost 2-0.
The Swift Current U12 Boys United Thunder played in the Premier Division and finished with two losses and a draw. They lost their opener 4-1 to FC Regina Navy on Friday. They rebounded to tie the Saskatoon Aurora Whitecaps 4-4 and then lost 6-0 to the Saskatoon Lakewood Raiders.
The U12 Boys United Lightning finished with a 2-2 record in Division II. They dropped their opener 3-2 to Saskatoon’s SUSC Arsenal and then lost 3-0 to the Saskatoon Lakewood Dynamo. The United Lightning rebounded to defeat the Aurora Athletics 5-3 and then dropped the SUSC Scorpions 4-1.
The United U14 Boys finished with a 1-2-1 record at the Harder Avalon Classic. They opened the tournament with a 2-2 tie against the Titans before losing 6-2 to the Aurora Draco. They bounced back with a 5-0 win over the Eastside Stealth, before losing 6-1 to Aurora Draco.
The U14 girls finished with a 1-1-2 record in Saskatoon. They lost their opener 2-0 to Prince Albert Celtic before bouncing back Saturday to draw the Aurora Horizon 1-1. They also tied the Eastside Rangers 1-1 before concluding the tournament with a 1-0 win over Hollandia.
The Swift Current United U16 Boys won once and lost twice over the weekend. They opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Moose Jaw’s Excelsior FC, followed by a 6-1 loss to Airdrie FC. They concluded the weekend with a 3-2 win over the Aurora Celtics.
The U16 girls finished with a 1-3 record. They fell 3-0 to the Lloydminster Drillers, 1-0 to the Eastside Celtics, and 2-0 to the Aurora Majestic. They defeated the Phantom Lake Fusion 2-0.
Swift Current United Soccer Club teams will be in Regina this weekend for a tournament hosted by the Queen City United Soccer Club.
