SoccerFest turns 20

A total of 57 games were played during the 20th annual SouthWest SoccerFest tournament over three days when 11 United teams took part in the tournament’s eight different divisions.

The U16 United Girls led the way with four shutout wins to claim gold. They won both games against the Moose Jaw Storm 3-0 and defeated Regina’s QC United 5-0 in both contests.

The U10 United Girls won their three-team tournament with one win and three draws. They defeated the Weyburn Red Devils 2-0 and also tied. The U10 United girls also tied Regina’s QC United 1-1 in both meetings.

The U10 Boys United Strikers placed second out of four teams with a 2-2 record. They opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over QC Black. They followed up with a 5-2 win over QC United before losing 3-1 to the United Barbarians.

The U10 Boys United Barbarians lost 3-0 to QC United and 5-3 to QC Black before rebounding to defeat the United Strikers 3-1.

The U12 Boys United Lightning advanced to the final with a 2-0-1 record before losing 4-0 to Medicine Hat Barca to win silver.

They tied Medicine Hat Madrid 3-3 to open the tournament. The United Lightning added a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge Rocca Rebels and a 3-1 win over QC United.

The U12 Boys United Thunder finished with a 1-1-1 record. They tied the Weyburn Black Devils 2-2, defeated QC United Black 6-1 and lost 3-1 to Medicine Hat Barca.

The U12 United Girls White team placed second out of five teams with a 3-1 record. They opened the tournament with a 7-2 win over Swift Current United Red. Saturday, they defeated Medicine Hat 5-4 and then lost 3-2 to Weyburn. They concluded the tournament Sunday with a win over QC United.

The U12 Girls Red lost all four of their games against United White, Medicine Hat, QC United and Weyburn.

The U16 Boys finished in a three-way tie for first place with two wins and two losses, but placed third on goal differential.

They defeated Moose Jaw Excelsior 2-1 and lost 4-1. They also defeated Kindersley 1-0 and lost 2-0.

The U14 Girls had a difficult weekend as they lost all four games against Medicine Hat and Weyburn.

The U14 United Boys played two exhibition games against Medicine Hat teams and emerged with a 4-3 win and a 3-1 loss.

United teams will be back in action this weekend when they head to Saskatoon for the 21st annual Harder Avalon Classic.
