Broncos move into top spot in division with shootout win

Brady Birnie scored the only goal in a 10-player shootout to lift the Swift Current Broncos to a 4-3 win over the host Moose Jaw Warriors on Tuesday.

The Broncos fourth consecutive win moved the Broncos into top spot in the East Division with a 12-6-0-0 record as they erased three deficits for their third road win of the season.

The Broncos fell behind on Moose Jaw goals from Ethan Hughes, Brayden Yager, and Aiden Ziprick. They tied the game each time with goals from Grayson Burzynski, Carlin Dezainde, and Clarke Caswell.

Reid Dyck stopped all five Warriors in the shootout. He finished the game with 25 saves on 28 shots over 65 minutes. Jackson Unger took the loss despite 42 saves to get the Warriors to the shootout.

The Warriors improved to 4-13-2-1, but remain last in the Western Hockey League after winning the league title last season.

The two teams will rematch in Swift Current on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Broncos are now 2-0 in the season series with both wins requiring overtime.

Bronco Bits: Birnie and Luke Mistelbacher both finished the game with two assists. Mistelbacher is one of three WHL skaters with an active point streak of 13 games. He has nine goals and 17 assists during the 13-game streak. Caswell is second in the league with 22 assists in 16 games.
