A fierce house fire in Swift Current resulted in a single fatality. According to a City of Swift Current media release, the Swift Current Fire Department responded to a structure fire on 14th Avenue Southeast just before midnight on June 18.
Firefighters saw flames coming out of two windows and the back door when they arrived on the scene. They initiated a fast attack firefighting procedure and got the fire under control within minutes.
The emergency response to the structure fire involved three Fire Department vehicles with 10 personnel, the RCMP, Hutch Ambulance, SaskEnergy as well as the City Waterworks and Light & Power departments.
A firefighting crew remained on scene throughout the night to monitor and prevent any fire re-ignition. The blaze caused heavy structural and content damage to the house. The cause of the fire will be investigated.
