Great Plains College is pleased to announce the 12th annual Carhartts & Caviar Welding Showcase and Auction presented by S3 Group Ltd. will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024.

The college’s Welding certificate students, alumni, their instructor and local businesses are working hard to create 12 custom pieces for the live auction at the March 7 event.

“The preparation for this event has become an integral part of the Welding program, giving students an opportunity to practice the skills they’re learning as they work in teams to create custom pieces for the auction through a process we call ‘Junk Yard Wars’,” said Jared McKenzie, Welding instructor. “It’s fun to see the students work together to bring their ideas to life and then showcase their work at the event for all their friends, family and the community.”

In addition to the Junkyard Wars pieces created by students, a one-of-a-kind patio set and a custom fire pit will be among the 12 pieces available for purchase during the live auction.

Early bird tickets purchased from January 22-February 16 are $60 and can be purchased at the college or by contacting diannes@greatplainscollege.ca or calling 306-773-1531. Any remaining tickets after February 16 will be $70.

“Since joining the college and attending my first Carhartts & Caviar event last year, I can see why it is the college’s longest running fundraiser – it brings community together to celebrate student success and raise money for future GPC students, while having a lot of fun doing it,” said Brad Mahon, president & CEO at Great Plains College. “Thank you to everyone who has supported this event throughout the years, helping raise over $200,000 for the Welding program and scholarship fund. We look forward to welcoming everyone in March for another great evening of food, drink and metal art.”

This event wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the community and the many event sponsors, including the presenting sponsor S3 Group Ltd. and hospitality sponsor, City of Swift Current.
