Riley Krane’s first career WHL goal stood up as the game winner as the Regina Pats skated to a 4-2 win over the host Swift Current Broncos.
Krane, who was recently added to the Pats line-up following a series of Regina injuries, converted a Josh Mahura centering pass to score in just his fourth WHL game.
Krane’s goal came just 3:16 after Dawson Leedahl collected his 33rd of the season as part of a two-goal middle period for Regina.
The teams were tied at 1-1 after a see-saw opening period. Bryan Lochner opened the scoring 1:38 into the game to spark Regina to an early 1-0 lead.
Broncos overage forward Lane Pederson tied that game at 1-1 when he converted his 21st of the season at the 14:51 mark of the period.
Peterson counted his second of the night on a power play with 3:54 left in regulation to pull the Broncos within 3-2.
Pats forward Wyatt Sloboshan added an empty net insurance goal with 31 seconds to put the game out of reach.
With the win the Pats reached the 100 point plateau on the season and improved their East Division leading record to 46-12-7-1.
The loss ended a five-game Swift Current winning streak ended as the Broncos drop to 35-21-4-6.
Regina goaltender Tyler Brown improved to 29-8-5-1 on the season by turning aside 31 of 33 shots. Bronco net minder Taz Burman gave up three goals on 37 shots as drops to 14-11-4-1 on the season.
Regina swept their four games this season at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex and now hold a 6-0-1-0 record over the Broncos. They play for the final time in the regular season on Wednesday, March 15 in Regina.
Swift Current now hits the ice for a home-and-home weekend series with the Saskatoon Blades, playing in Saskatoon on Friday before returning home for a Saturday night contest.
