Wildcats on the brink of elimination

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats are now only one loss away from playoff elimination after a 2-1 double overtime loss to the visiting Saskatoon Stars Wednesday.

The Wildcats now find themselves down two games to none in the best-of-five Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League semi-final series.

Grace Shirley scored a wraparound goal for the Stars midway through the second overtime period on the Stars’ 44th shot on goal. Harper Davey had stopped 42 of the first 43 shots she faced during a busy outing in the Wildcats’ goal. Arden Kliewer got the win with 15 saves for the Stars.

Kianna Dietz had scored for the Stars in the first period. Taylor Kirwan responded for the Wildcats in the opening minute of the second period with assists from Chloe Smith and Janessa Fournier.

Game three will be Saturday in Saskatoon.
