The Swift Current U15 Sonic headed down to Thomson Lake on Wednesday night for a double header against the South Central Venom. The U15 Sonic were excited to test themselves against a solid Venom team that play a category higher in Saskatchewan Softball than the Sonic.
The first game was a tightly contested affair. Runs were hard to come by as both teams demonstrated solid pitching and good defensive play with the Venom coming out on top by a score of 3-2. Mackenzie Smith started on the mound pitching 3.1 innings giving up three runs and striking out two.
Bree Pavely came in relief, pitching 1.2 innings without giving up a run and recording one strikeout. Eden Larson got on base with two infield hits, while Mackenzie Smith hit a double and Lyla Thiessen got on base with a single.
The second game was another close one. Two bad innings cost the Sonic as they gave up five runs in the first inning and four runs in the fifth to fall 11-8.
Starter Bree Pavely took the loss on the mound pitching two of five innings. The Sonic were led offensively by Pavely, Smith and Taylor Schury who each had two hits.
Smith had four RBI and Pavely added two RBI. Bailey Fox, Anaiah Stechyshyn, Brynn Haubrich, Serena Kochan and Karli Duncan were all credited with singles.
The U15 Sonic sit with a record of 14-4-1 so far this year. Next action for the Sonic is Saturday when they make the trip the Battleford to take on the Bandits.
