SENIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Mother Nature finally cooperated and we were able to complete the playoffs for the senior boys league championship. Frontier hosted SCCHS Gr 9/10, Eastend and Hazlet in the league final. In the first round of matches, Frontier defeated the Hazlet Chargers (2-0) and SCCHS defeated the Eastend Echoes (2-0). Eastend went on to beat Hazlet (2-0) to place third in the league. The Frontier Raiders defeated the SCCHS 9/10 Colts (2-0) in the final to claim the league title for 2022.

SHSAA PROVINCIAL VOLLEYBALL

Both Fox Valley and Frontier advanced to the 1A Boys provincial tournament in Beechy/Lucky Lake.

In Pool B, Fox Valley had wins over Medstead (25-13, 25-23), Englefeld (25-8, 25-18) and Frontier (25-17, 22-25, 15-9). The Legends only loss was to Rouleau (25-27, 13-25, 13-15). After pool play was completed, Fox Valley was in a three-way tie with Rouleau and Medstead for top spot in Pool B with 3-1 records. After the tie break was applied, Fox Valley finished first in their pool. Frontier had a challenging road to the playoff round out of Pool B.

They started with losses to Rouleau (20-25, 8-25), Medstead (26-24), and Frontier. A Saturday morning win against Englefeld (25-19, 25-22), sent the Raiders into the playoff round as the #4 in Pool B.

In the first round of playoffs, Frontier came up against the #1 ranked 1A boys team in the province.  The Raiders gave the Bellevue team quite a challenge in the first set, losing 22-25.  But, in the end, the Bellevue team was too strong and defeated the Frontier team (2-0) and eliminated them from the championship.

The Fox Valley Legends played Kincaid in their quarter-final and advanced to the semi final with an exciting win (25-19, 25-23).   The semi-final match with Annaheim was a three set battle and the Legends lost a heartbreaker (20-25, 25-20, 13-15).  The disappointing semi final loss to Annaheim sent the Fox Valley team into the bronze medal match.  This was a rematch of an earlier pool game against Rouleau.  Unfortunately, the result was the same, a 2-1 loss for Fox Valley (20-25, 25-21, 13-15).  Fox Valley placed fourth in the province, not the result they wanted but a great accomplishment nevertheless.

The SCCHS Ardens were in Balgonie for the 5A Girls SHSAA provincial championship.  The Swift Current team did not get out of the pool rounds, but that result is not indicative of how competitive the team was at the championships. Their strong pool included the eventual gold and bronze medalists. A break here or there and they could have finished anywhere in the pool against the top teams in the province. They had losses to bronze medalists Balgonie/Greenall (23-25, 21-25), Prince Albert Carlton 25-20, 23-25, 10-15), gold medalists Saskatoon Holy Cross (22-25, 19-25) and Regina Campbell (20-25, 26-24, 14-16).
