Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats goaltender Karlee Lehner was recognized for a dominant opening month in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League.

The Prince Albert native was named the October Second Star after posting a 3-1 record, a 1.50 goals against average, and a .955 save percentage.

“Karlee is an excellent teammate who always puts team success ahead of personal accolades. She is very coachable, which has allowed her to continually improve. She moves very well in the net, which allows her to make some highlight reel saves. Karlee will fight through traffic to make saves and never gives up on a puck,” said Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely.

The second-year Wildcat posted back-to-back shutouts on Oct. 9 and 22 against the Weyburn Gold Wings and Battlefords Sharks.

“Karlee has a steady demeanor regardless of the situation, which has a calming influence on her team. She is quietly competitive, letting her actions speak louder than words. She gives her team an opportunity to win every time she is in the crease,” added Pavely.

Lehner and the Wildcats currently sit atop the SFU18AAAHL standings with an 8-3-0-0 record with wins in their last three games. They return to league action on Nov. 19 when they visit the unbeaten Notre Dame Hounds.

Saskatoon Stars forward Avery Bairos was named the First Star with six goals and two assists in six games.

Notre Dame Hounds forward Virginia Harazny was the Third Star with a goal and three assists in four games played.
