Broncos trade for veteran defenseman

The Swift Current Broncos added a bit of experience to their blueline with a trade on Wednesday.

The Broncos acquired 6’1’’ defenseman Adam McNutt from the Regina Pats in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

The Saskatoon product has seven shots on goal, a minus-two rating, and 20 penalty minutes in eight games this season. The 2003-born McNutt is a veteran of 77 WHL games with the Pats and Prince Albert Raiders, including six points in 43 games with the Pats last season.

The Broncos also announced that they had reassigned 2005-born defenseman Liam Saxberg to the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The Broncos third round pick in the 2020 draft had appeared in four games this season.

McNutt won’t have to wait long to face his former team as the Broncos host the Regina Pats on Friday at 7 p.m. at the InnovationPlex. The Broncos are out to a 2-4-0-0 start and are coming off a 4-3 loss to the host Pats on Saturday.
