SWAC golfers win provincial medals

SHSAA PROVINCIAL GOLF

SWAC sent golfers to the SHSAA provincial championship. Ryder Woods (SC) was injured, so we were able to send Cameron Schwab (MC) in his place. 

The female golfers from SCCHS came away with hardware from the championship. Congratulations to Niya Friesen who won a bronze medal in the female individual competition. Niya’s score combined with Lyla Thiessen and Mia Riegel scores ensured a silver medal for the trio in the district team competition.

Final standing at the Provincial Championship –

SWAC Girls (out of 38 competitors): Niya Friesen (3rd), Mia Riegel (9th), Lyla Thiessen (14th).

SWAC Boys (out of 51 competitors):

Makstr McIntyre (18th), Logan Lenz (26th), Ayden Ross (27th), Cameron Schwab (30th).

FOOTBALL

In 12 man league play, the SCCHS football team was in tough against a strong Yorkton squad. The Colts held Yorkton to just four points in the first quarter, but then Yorkton pulled away to a 44-0 win. SCCHS next game is in Weyburn on Saturday, October 1.

On Friday, September 23, Gull Lake hosted their first home game against Notre Dame.  This was an offensive game with Notre Dame taking the 67-30 win in the 9-man competition. 

Shaunavon hosted a battle of SWAC teams with Maple Creek traveling to play the Shadows. The Shadows came away with a 20-0 win in a game played under the lights.

9-man football games on Friday, September 30 have Shaunavon hosting Lumsden, Gull Lake traveling to Indian Head, and Maple Creek on the road to Notre Dame.

SOCCER

On Wednesday, Sept 28 both the Arden and Colt soccer teams will be on the road to Moose Jaw. They will take on MJ Central girls and boys. The Colts will return to Moose Jaw on Saturday, Oct 1 to take on Yorkton Regional followed by a game against Yorkton Sacred Heart.

VOLLEYBALL

Our senior volleyball leagues started this week. Teams play a match that is best of three sets. For each set win, there is one point awarded and an extra point goes to who wins the match (3 points up for grabs each match).

SWAC senior girls week one standings have Vanguard, Frontier and SCCHS all at the top tied with six points. SWAC senior boys week one standings have Shaunavon, Hazlet and Frontier on top with six points each.

Girls host sites on Tuesday, Sept. 27 are SCCHS (Shaunavon), Ponteix (Herbert, Frontier). Matches scheduled for Eastend (Vanguard, Hazlet) have been moved to October 24.

Boys Host sites on Wednesday, Sept. 28 are Herbert (SCCHS) and Hazlet (Cabri/Frontier). The matches scheduled for Eastend (Consul, Shaunavon) have been moved to October 3.
