Swift Current’s outdoor ice was no match for the record breaking warm weather which moved into the Southwest this week.
As a result of the record breaking warm weather which has settled in over the region, Swift Current’s five outdoor rinks and shacks have been immediately closed for public use.
“The outdoor rinks and shacks were opened in late December; however, due to the mild weather and deteriorating ice conditions, they will be closed for the remainder of the season,” explained Andy Toth, Parks Manager for the City of Swift Current.
Skating enthusiasts were able to enjoy eight weeks of outdoor skating in Swift Current.
“We have had another successful season in the terms of patron usage and hosted several successful events during the eight weeks of operation,” Toth added.
People are now invited to lace up their skates during public skating times at both the Fairview Arenas and the iPlex.
The Innovation Credit Union Family Skate will be hosted at the iPlex on February 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsored by Innovation Credit Union and Pioneer Co-op, participants can skate with Fat Cat and Cooper, and have a chance to win a fun family package. A $3 charity meal is being served on the Family Day holiday Monday, with proceeds supporting the Swift Current Community Youth Initiative.
