Wildcats shutout Goldwings twice

The Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats blanked the visiting Weyburn Wings over 120 to head into the holiday break on a winning note in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League.

Saturday, the Wildcats returned to the win column with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Weyburn Gold Wings when Karlee Lehner made 23 saves in the shutout.

Jerzey Watteyne, Sadie Keller, Kiana McNinch, and Paris Appel all finished with one goal and one assist. Tess Bakus also scored, while Ella Wingert, Jessica Bouffard, and Gracie Georget all added assists.

Hailey Sibbald took the loss with 40 saves.

Sunday, the Wildcats posted a second straight shutout win when Aurora Van Wormer made 17 saves for their third shutout of the season. McNinch was in on the opening four goals as she finished with one goal and three assists. Defenseman Caitlyn Perlinger scored twice, while Watteyne, Addison Eurich, and Keller all added singles. Olivia Kirwan picked up a pair of assists, while Ava Metzger, Samantha Thompson, Amiyah Jones, and Laiken Swan all added single helpers.

Sibbald took the loss with 24 saves.

The Wildcats moved into second in the SFU18AAAHL with a 10-7-2-0 record, while Weyburn fell to 1-15-0-1.

The Wildcats will return to league action on Jan. 7-8 in Prince Albert.
