Broncos shutout by WHL leading Ice

The Swift Current Broncos were shutout for the first time this season on Wednesday when they lost 7-0 to the host Winnipeg Ice, the top ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League.

Connor McClennon scored twice, while Jakin Smallwood, Matthew Savoie, Nolan Orzeck, Skyler Bruce, and Chase Berthonlet also tallied.

Reid Dyck made 42 saves in a losing cause for the Broncos, who were outscored 15-2 on their two-game Manitoba road trip. Gage Alexander made 25 saves for his third WHL shutout.

Specials teams played a major factor in the result as the Ice scored four power play goals on eight attempts. The Broncos failed to capitalize on their only man-advantage.

The Broncos fell to 6-11-2-1 in the loss, while Winnipeg improved to 20-1-0-0 with their ninth consecutive win.

The Broncos will host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday as they look to get back into the win column.
