Broncos edge Tigers for second straight win to open the season

The Swift Current Broncos defeated the host Medicine Hat Tigers for a second straight night to open the 2021-22 Western Hockey League regular season. One night after a 2-0 home win, the Broncos responded with a 3-2 road win in Medicine Hat.

The Broncos took control of the game with three goals in the first period. Caleb Wyrostok opened the scoring only 3:17 into regulation against his hometown team.

Josh Filmon doubled the lead minutes later with a power play goal. Raphael Pelletier added an insurance goal with only 19 seconds left in the period.

Lukas Svejkovsky scored twice in the third period as the Tigers scoreless streak ended after over 110 minutes to open the season.

Isaac Poulter improved to 2-0 with 29 saves for the Broncos. Garin Bjorklund took a second straight loss with 22 saves.

The Broncos improved to 2-0, while the Tigers dropped to 0-2.

The Broncos will be back at home on Tuesday against the Red Deer Rebels.
