The Swift Current Comp. Colts Soccer team won their season opener with a 3-2 victory over Yorkton in Moose Jaw on the weekend.
The scoring was opened when Zachary Kielo netted the 1-0 lead. Two additional goals were added by Rowan Reimer. Veteran goalkeeper Jared Steinley saved a last-minute penalty kick to secure the win.
The Colts have a young roster with only two grade 12 and three grade 11 players returning to action.
“The standout play of Austyn Funk, Devin Kalenchuk, Luke Harll, and Zachary Kielo on defence paired with the calm control of Rowan Reimer, Carter Munro, Kai Haubrich, and Charlie Weinbender in the midfield enable fast and hard attacking plays from our strikers Ashton Munro and Jonathyn Dyke. The foundation of the team was Jared Steinly as keeper as he set the formation and pushed the Colts up field,” noted coach Chris Garner.
The Colts are back in action on Wednesday against Moose Jaw Central at 4:30 p.m. at Irwin Field.
