Public invited to learn about Pow Wow traditions this Tuesday

The Living Sky Casino will be hosting a Pow Wow For The Public information evening on Tuesday to allow community members to learn more about the origins and traditions of Pow Wow events.

The evening will be put on by the Living Sky Casino’s Pow Wow Committee starting at 7 p.m. in the Sky Centre. The evening will share information regarding the origins and traditions of First Nation’s Pow Wow events, and there will be a question and answer session following the presentation.
“We want to involve the public more,” explained Trevor Marion, President of the Living Sky Casino’s Pow Wow host committee. “I’ve been to events where I didn’t really know what was going on, and I didn’t know if I could ask the proper questions.”
Both Marion and Pow Wow Committee Vice President Sheldon Poitras will be making the presentations in order to help the public better understand what they will see at a Pow Wow. There is free admission to the information night, and all ages are welcome.
“We want to open it up more and invite more people. We’ve seen more non First Nations people at our event over the years.”
The Living Sky Casino’s 2017 Pow Wow will be held on February 18 and 19 at the Stockade in Kinetic Park.
