Broncos acquire defenseman from Pats

The Swift Current Broncos made a deal on Thursday to acquire defenseman Daylan Weigel from the Regina Pats.

The Broncos sent a fifth round pick in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft in exchange for the 2003-born blueliner.

The Warman native was originally drafted in the sixth round in 2018, 130th overall, by the Regina Pats.

The right-shot defenseman spent the 2019-20 campaign with the Saskatoon Blazers of the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League, scoring six goals along with 20 assists in 42 games. He was teammates with Broncos prospects Carter Stebbings and Parker Lalonde during the 2019-20 season.

Weigel has one game of WHL experience on Feb. 5, 2020 when the Pats visited the Saskatoon Blades.

The Broncos 2020-21 roster currently shows 15 forwards, seven defensemen, and goaltenders Isaac Poulter and Reid Dyck.

The 24-game East Division regular season is set to begin on March 12 in Regina.
