Lajoie traded to Hurricanes

Former Swift Current Broncos defenseman Max Lajoie has been traded from his only National Hockey League home.

The Ottawa Senators traded the 23-year-old blueliner to the Carolina Hurricanes just prior to the 2020-21 regular season getting underway. The Senators received forward Clark Bishop in return.

Lajoie has registered 15 points in 62 NHL games in Ottawa. He also has 33 points in 107 games with Belleville in the American Hockey League. Last season, Lajoie had four goals and 13 assists in 48 games with the Belleville Senators in the AHL. He also appeared in six NHL games with Ottawa.

Lajoie was selected 133rd overall by the Senators in the 2016 NHL Draft. He suited up for three full seasons in Swift Current, registering 22 goals, 98 assists, and 76 penalty minutes in 203 regular season games. He added 12 points in 18 playoff games, including nine points in 14 games during the 2017 WHL playoffs. The Calgary native was selected by the Broncos in the fifth round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
