The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats tightened their grip on second place with a two-game sweep of the visiting Prince Albert Bears.
Saturday, Amaya Giraudier stopped all 18 shots she faced as the Wildcats defeated the Bears 2-0.
The third-year Wildcat improved to 9-1-0 with her seventh career shutout as she lowered her goals against average to 1.20 and raised her save percentage to .945.
The Wildcats won the game on special teams as they scored twice on the power play and killed off six shorthanded situations. Brooklyn Rublee scored in the second period and Ryleigh White added an insurance marker in the third period. Sara Kendall assisted on both goals, while White also had an assist.
Sunday, the Wildcats followed up with a 3-1 victory over the Bears. Kendall and Baylee Kirwan each finished with a goal and an assist, while Jessica Boufard also scored. Brooklyn Rublee assisted on two goals.
Cheyenne Jamieson earned the win with 16 saves as the Wildcats outshot the Bears by a 39-17 margin. Jamieson improved to 7-3 with a 1.97 GAA and a .922 save percentage.
Kailee Pepper scored the lone goal for the Bears. Dani Day took the loss despite making 36 saves.
The Wildcats remain second in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League with a 15-4-1-0 record, 15 points ahead of Prince Albert (9-10-2-1) with two games in hand.
Kendall now leads the SFMAAAHL with 24 assists and 40 points in 20 games this season. Kirwan is second with 19 goals and 28 points. Giraudier leads the league with a .945 save percentage.
The Wildcats will host the Notre Dame Hounds on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. at Fairview West Arena.
