The Swift Current Broncos made a move to add depth to their forward ranks on Thursday with the addition of Brecon Wood.
The Broncos sent the rights of Ashton McNelly to the Seattle Thunderbirds for the 6’2’’ Wood and a conditional eighth round pick in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft.
Wood spent much of the 2018-19 season with the Thunderbirds, registering three goals and five assists in 46 games. He was originally drafted by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the seventh round of the 2015 Bantam Draft. He also skated for the Warriors and the Spruce Grove Saints in the AJHL last season.
McNelly was drafted in the 10th round by the Broncos in 2018. He had two points and 52 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Fort Saskatchewan Midget AAA Rangers last season.
