Kyle’s Kade Cheney won Novice Bareback with a 73-point ride for $178 at the Canadian Cowboys Association rodeo in Unity.
Ladies Barrel Racing was the top event as four Southwest cowgirls finished in the top six, led by Eastend’s Bailee Humphrey, who placed second in 17.61 seconds for $720. Mankota’s Karli Cowie was third in 17.63 seconds for $612. Shaunavon’s Haley Glasrud placed fourth in 17.76 seconds for $514. Maple Creek’s Della Bowyer finished in sixth spot in 17.89 seconds for $288.
Piapot’s Casey Bertram tied for second in Saddle Bronc when he was awarded 72 points for his turn on Poachers Moon for $306.
Swift Current’s Travis Munro placed second in Steer Wrestling in 5.3 seconds for a $468 payday.
Hazenmore’s Chanse Switzer picked up $510 for a third-place showing in Bull Riding with 74 points on In Pieces.
Maple Creek’s Tyler and Adam Gilchrist placed third in Team Roping in 6.0 seconds for $1,039.
Maple Creek’s Cassidy Gordon placed third in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 18.2 seconds for $108. Eastend’s Juanita Humphrey was right behind her in fourth in 18.45 seconds for $54.
Swift Current’s Keith Folk placed fourth in Tied Down Roping in Unity in 13.3 seconds for $292.
The CCA returns to the Southwest this weekend for the Sandhill Rodeo in Lancer on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
