The Swift Current 18U AAA 57’s opened their season with one win in four road games in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League over the weekend.
The 57’s were unable to contain the host Saskatoon Giants on Saturday as they allowed 33 runs in a pair of road losses.
They dropped the opener 15-5 when they were held to six hits and made four errors. Leadoff man Nathan McInnis led the 57’s with a triple, a single, and a run scored. Ethan Murdoch singled, walked, scored a run, stole a base, and knocked a run home. First baseman Dawson Schultz singled twice, scored a run, and had one RBI.
The 57’s lost the second game 18-8 to the Giants. They were held to six hits, but walked 12 times and took advantage of three errors.
McInnis had another two-hit day, including a double to go along with a walk, one run scored, a stolen base and three RBI’s. Kole Giesbrecht doubled twice, scored twice, and knocked home a run. Kelsey Rokochy walked three times, stole a base, and scored twice. Schultz also walked twice and scored a pair of runs.
Sunday, the 57’s got into the win column with a 12-3 victory over the host Regina Wolfpack. The 57’s knocked out 11 hits to go along with 10 walks. Brody Alexandre earned the win on the mound as he struck out seven over four innings without allowing an earned run.
McInnis doubled during a two-hit outing while scoring twice and knocking home one run. Murdoch also doubled during a two-hit game, scored twice, and had two RBI’s
Quinn Patenaude walked three times, scored twice, and stole a base. Rokochy doubled, singled, walked, scored, and knocked home one run. Charlie Arntsen walked twice, singled, and scored twice.
The 57’s dropped the second game 10-2 to conclude the weekend. McInnis led the 57’s with two hits, a stolen base, and a run scored. Murdoch doubled home a pair of runs and also stole a base.
The 18U 57’s will be on the road on Saturday for a double header against the Northwest Pirates.
