Gull Lake’s Kayla Kirwan scored in double overtime to lift the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s hockey team to a 4-3 win over the visiting University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.
Swift Current’s Chloe Smith also finished with a goal and an assist for the Huskies.
Kirwan, a third-year defenseman, now has three goals and four points in nine games. Smith also has four points in her second season with the Huskies. Both are graduates of the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats, along with Hodgeville’s Brooklyn Haubrich.
The Huskies improved to 7-2-0-0, while UBC dropped to 5-2-1-1. They will rematch on Saturday evening at the newly opened Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon.
