The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats opened the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs with a 3-0 loss in Regina on Monday.
Special teams were a factor in the loss as the Wildcats failed to score on six man-advantages, while Regina finished one-for-three on the power play.
Miranda Hatt got the Rebels on the board in the first period with a power play goal.
The second period was scoreless as the Wildcats outshot the Rebels 10-5.
Lauren Focht and Tavia Terry added third-period goals to close out the win for Regina.
Amaya Giraudier suffered the loss with 26 saves. Chantel Weller made 23 saves in the shutout for the Rebels.
Game two of the best-of-five playoff series will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Fairview West Arena.
