Team South West placed fifth in the medal standings at the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford with 42 medals after the final day of action Saturday.
Team South West added six gold medals on the final day of action as they finished with 12 gold, 18 silver, and 12 bronze medals after six days of competition in 17 different sports.
Swift Current’s Jenae Ruetz won gold in Bowling Special Olympics Individual Female. South West Team #2 also won gold in the Bowling Special Olympics Team Co-ed competition.
Moose Jaw’s Tristan Smith added a gold medal in the Bowling Individual Female competition.
Team South West added three gold medals in Wrestling. Swift Current’s Luke Nelson won gold in the Wrestling Individual Competition 67 KG Male. Swift Current’s Elijah Harden also won gold in the Wrestling Individual Competition 80 KG Male. Kyle Yamniuk (Moose Jaw) won gold in the 60 KG Division.
Team South West added seven silver medals to their total before Sunday’s closing ceremonies.
Swift Current’s Kenzie Gates won three more medals in Snowboarding to finish with four silver medals. She added a silver Snowboard Slopestyle Day 2 in U17 Female. Gates also placed second in Snowboard Boardercross U17 Female and was second in Snowboard Overall U17 Female.
Cassia Montgomery (Moose Jaw) placed second in the Bowling Individual Female competition.
Team South West, featuring curlers from four different communities, won bronze in Female Curling. They lost 7-4 to Saskatoon in the gold medal game.
Connor Rowsell (Moose Jaw) was second in Wrestling Individual Competition 95 KG Male and Hannah Watt (Caronport) was second in Wrestling Individual Competition 67-75 KG Female.
The only bronze medal added to the medal tally for Team South West came from Swift Current’s Chelsey Proctor in the Bowling Special Olympics Individual Female.
Swift Current’s Mackenzie McIntyre won a bronze medal as a part of a mixed team in the Cross Country Skiing Female Senior Relay on the final day as well.
