Swift Current United Soccer Club teams had a successful final weekend of tournament competition at the Eastside Copa in Saskatoon. A total of five United teams took part in the tournament hosted by the Eastside Youth Soccer Association. Three United girls teams won gold while a boys team was able to win silver.
The United U12 Girls finished with a 4-0 record to win gold in a seven-team Division III tournament, outscoring the opposition 23-1 along the way.
They won their opener 7-1 over Saskatoon’s Lakewood Storm and followed up with an 8-0 win over the Aurora Pulse. They took on Saskatoon’s Eastside Athletico in the semi-final and advanced with a 4-0 win.
The U12 United Girls faced Eastside Sevilla in the championship match and wrapped up gold with a 4-0 victory.
The U16 Girls also played in a seven-team tournament and won five straight games to win gold.
They opened the tournament against Lloydminster Friday and won 1-0 on a goal from striker Jannae Carlson.
They also faced the Phantom Lake Thunder on Saturday and got their offense on track with a 9-0 win after scoring six goals in the second half. Taylor Kohls paced the attack with four goals, followed by a hat trick from Allison Wall. Carlson scored for a second straight game and Aleah Nickel added a single.
They rematched with Phantom Lake in the quarter-final and won 7-0. Nickel netted three goals, followed by a two-goal outing from Carlson. Wall and Michaella Smuk both added singles.
The U16 Girls took on the Aurora U15 Premier team in the semi-final and won 2-1 in a shootout. Carlson scored the only goal in regulation. Swift Current faced Saskatoon’s SUSC Comets in the championship on Sunday afternoon and won 1-0 on a goal from Nickel.
The U14 United Girls were one of four teams at Copa and went undefeated to win gold.
They opened the tournament against the Lloydminster Drillers on Friday and won 1-0. They took on the SUSC Vipers Saturday and tied 0-0. They concluded the round robin against the host Eastside Spartans and won 3-0 to earn a spot in the gold medal match.
The United U14 Girls rematched with Lloydminster in the championship match and won 1-0 to bring home gold from their final tune-up before Provincials.
The U16 United Boys placed second out of five teams at Copa. They reached the final with a 2-2 round robin record.
Swift Current opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over SUSC Nitro on Friday. Saturday, they lost 5-2 to Prince Albert Celtic and then defeated Saskatoon’s Aurora Celtics 3-0. They concluded the round robin with a 1-0 loss to Saskatoon’s Hollandia Sirman.
The U16 United Boys rematched with Hollandia in the gold medal match and lost 3-0.
Swift Current United were one of eight teams in the U14 Boys tournament and finished with two losses and one draw.
They lost their opener 3-1 to Prince Albert Celtic and then fell 6-0 to Hollandia Tapia. The U14 boys finished the weekend with a 2-2 draw against Aurora Draco.
Swift Current United Soccer Club teams are idle this weekend before four teams compete at Provincials the following weekend. The U14, U16, and U18 girls will host Provincials in Swift Current, while the U14 Boys will head to Saskatoon.
