The Natural Conservancy of Canada is seeking volunteers on Friday and Saturday to assist with a migratory bird count.
The volunteer project is seeking people from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday in order to carry out migratory bird counts and inventories at Reed Lake outside of Morse.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada has been protecting the Reed Lake site since 2012.
As a critical area for migratory birds, Reed Lake is a large (13 kilometre long by three kilometre wide body of water, and the saline, shallow open water wetland is recognized as one of five wetlands in Saskatchewan of major importance for the endangered Piping Plover and is designated a Western Hemispheric Shorebird Reserve Network along with Old Wives and Chaplin Lake.
The Nature Conservancy of Canada hosts Bird Counts on the property every year. In 2016 they recorded 21 nesting pairs of piping plovers during the international piping plover census. Organizers hope to see more and more pairs in the area this year.
NCC’s ongoing stewardship of the lands and these migratory bird surveys are being helped by the federal and provincial governments. A total of $41,000 was provided by Environment and Climate Change Canada through the Natural Areas Conservation Program while the Government of Saskatchewan contributed $6,500.
