It is a busy week for volleyball ref clinics, football games, senior volleyball league start up and senior golf districts.
SWAC SENIOR GOLF
SWAC held its District Golf Championship on Thursday in Shaunavon and the top four male and female golfers qualified for the SHSAA Provincial Championship in Humboldt on Sept. 25-26.
Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess took top spot on the boys side out of 45 golfers with a 71 for a nine-shot win. Jace Munro tied for second spot for the SCCHS Colts with an 80, while Hodgeville’s Kyron Watson also carded an 80. The fourth and final spot was decided in a playoff when Swift Current’s Carter Broccolo and Nixon Friesen and Shaunavon’s Kellen Ross all carded 84s before Broccolo won the playoff.
The girls division featured eight golfers and Eastend’s Claire Topham won by one shot with an 86. Swift Current’s Hailey Bollinger and Kayden Meyer took the next two spots with 87s. Eastend’s Jane Topham grabbed the final spot at Provincials with a 98.
JUNIOR GOLF
SWAC’s junior golf district championship takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the Streambank Golf Course in Eastend. This will be a nine-hole championship with a 2 p.m. start time.
FOOTBALL
9-man Shaunavon hosted their home opener versus Lumsden on Friday. They lost that game 48-3. Their next game is on the road to Moose Jaw to play Vanier Collegiate on Friday.
12-man SCCHS Colts defeated Moose Jaw AE Peacock 34-0 on Friday. The SCCHS team will go to Yorkton on Friday.
6-man Maple Creek continued their strong season with a huge 57-6 win over Biggar on the road. Maple Creek will travel to Eatonia on Thursday for their next league action.
6-man Gull Lake hosted Central Butte on Friday. This game finished with an exciting 49-42 win for the Lions. Gull Lake will have another home game on Friday versus Hanley.
VOLLEYBALL

Herbert over SCCHS (25-20, 26-24), Cabri over SCCHS (25-17, 25-12), Cabri over Herbert (25-16, 25-21).
Frontier over Shaunavon (25-15, 25-19), Consul over Shaunavon (25-8, 25-20), Frontier over Consul (25-22, 25-17).
Boys league hosts for Wednesday, Sept. 23 are SCCHS hosting Cabri and Herbert. Consul will host Frontier and Shaunavon.
Senior Girls league results from Tuesday, Sept. 15:
Herbert over Gull Lake (25-1, 25-23, 15-12), Cabri over Gull Lake (25-23, 25-18), Cabri over Herbert (26-24, 26-24).
Match #1: Eastend over Shaunavon: (18-25, 29-27, 15-13). Match #2: Shaunavon over Eastend (25-13, 25-21).
Match #1: Fox Valley over Maple Creek (25-5, 25-11). Match #2 Fox Valley over Maple Creek (25-17, 25-11).
Match #1 Vanguard over SHS B (25 – 18, 25 – 19), Match #2 Vanguard over SHS B (25 – 14, 25- 8).
Girls league host sites for Tuesday, Sept. 22 are Shaunavon B hosts Frontier, Consul hosts Shaunavon A, Cabri hosts Fox Valley. Gull Lake hosts Vanguard and Eastend. Also playing in Gull Lake will be Maple Creek vs Herbert.

Oct. 31 – Junior Sectional playoffs
Nov. 7 – Junior Districts (Hazlet hosts junior girls, Ponteix hosts junior boys)
Nov. 7 – Senior girls provincial playoffs begin
Nov. 14 – Senior boys provincial playoffs begin
Nov. 20-21 – 5A boys provincial championship at SCCHS.
CROSS COUNTRY
SWAC district cross county is being hosted by Eastend (Streambank Golf Course) on Thursday, Oct. 8. Athletes from grade 3-12 can compete.
Grade 9-12 SHSAA Provincial championship is Saturday, Oct. 17 at Table Mountain.
SOCCER
The Swift Current Comp. Ardens earned a pair of shutout wins in Moose Jaw on Saturday to move to 2-2 on the season.
Kira Gatzke led the Ardens with seven goals and two assists. Luxin Hamilton added four goals and five assists. Rowan Robinson finished the day with three goals and six assists.
Rory Williams and Beth Mohagen both saw time in the Ardens’ goal as they played 160 scoreless minutes.
The Ardens will head to Prince Albert for a tournament this weekend.
