The Swift Current Wolverines left the province for a new league challenge in the Prairie Gold Junior Lacrosse League over the weekend. The Wolverines visited the Winnipeg Blizzard for three games and won the middle game against a new league rival.
The Wolverines lost the opener 9-8 on Saturday afternoon. Isaac Froese led the visitors with three goals, followed by one goal and two assists from Brady Simpson. Riley Schafer scored twice, Grady Henderson added a goal and an assist, and Diesel Paulhus registered two assists. Gage Smith also scored in the loss.
Jackson Rampersad led the Blizzard with four goals and one assist.
Saturday evening, the Wolverines scored two late goals to answer back with an 8-7 victory over the Blizzard.
Chayse Schafer and Henderson both scored twice in the win. Simpson, Riley Schafer, Ryder Smith, and Froese also scored.
Winston Hooker-Ridgen led the Blizzard with three goals and one assist, while Connor Bruyere scored a hat trick as well.
Sunday, the Blizzard scored nine goals in the second period to defeat the Wolverines 14-7.
Henderson led the Wolverines with three goals. Simpson and Zealand Rayner both added a goal and an assist. Froese and Nathan Klimm also scored. Chase Schafer added one assist.
Rampersad finished the game with three goals and three assists to lead the Blizzard, followed by four goals and one assist from Owen Hamilton and three goals and two assists from Bruyere.
The Wolverines fell to 2-2-0 on the season, while the Blizzard moved to 2-1-0.
The Wolverines will host the Weyburn Razorbacks on Sunday at 2 p.m. at S3 West Arena.
