Swift Current’s Griffin Striker has found a new soccer home. The graduating Swift Current Comp. Colts and Swift Current United star his signed with the Memorial University of Newfoundland Sea-Hawks for next season.

The Sea-Hawks, based out of St. John’s, play in the Atlantic University Sport Conference at the U Sports level.

Striker is already familiar with their campus after representing Saskatchewan at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St.John’s.

“Canada Games were there at the campus, so being able to see it and to kind of live what that life would be like for a week was helpful. Also, the coach, he did a lot of homework on me, both as a player and as a person to see whether I would be a good fit. He seemed like a really nice guy,” said Striker.

Striker said he first got in contact with coach Alex McNutt through Yorkton Regional’s high school coach, who had attended Memorial University.

“I was able to get in contact with him during the high school season. He said that he had first scouted me at Canada Games, but he figured because I was from Sask I wouldn’t come out there. That’s when he first saw me yeah.”

The Sea-Hawks finished with a 4-5-3 record in the AUS regular season 2025.

“I think that they make the playoffs pretty consistently in the AUS. Last year they were in sixth place, so they just barely got in. But the year before that I believe they were second in the league and they just missed out on Nationals,” said the central midfielder. “I think they have some midfielders that were graduating, so hopefully I should have the opportunity to play in my first year I think,” said Striker.

Striker plans to study education at Memorial University as he follows in the footsteps of his parents, who are both teachers in the Chinook School Division.
