Williams wins Viking Cup with SJHL Selects

Kyle’s Rylan Williams helped the SJHL U20 Selects win five straight games to claim the

Viking Cup in Camrose, Alberta.

Williams was joined by former Swift Current Broncos Sam Ward and Van Eger on the all-star team.

Williams has 16 goals and 28 assists in 30 games with the Estevan Bruins. He already has career highs in assists and points after playing the previous two seasons with the Battlefords North Stars.

The SJHL U20’s won their opening game 6-2 over the Midland University Warriors in the first Viking Cup game in 20 years. Eger and Ward both had assists in the tournament-opening win.

Monday, Williams scored a goal in a 7-2 win over Team Czechia. Ward also had an assist in the win over Czechia.

The SJHL All-Stars continued to roll on New Years Eve with a 7-3 win over the host Augustana Vikings. Williams scored in the win, while Ward had an assist for a third straight game.

Friday, the SJHL All-Stars closed out the round robin with a 3-2 overtime win over the SAIT Trojans.

The SJHL Selects completed the unbeaten run with a 5-4 overtime win over SAIT on Saturday. Ethan Andrews scored the tournament-winning goal 8:40 into the first overtime period. Williams assisted on the game’s opening goal by Gavin Granger and a third-period marker from Tylan Henrikson to tie the game 4-4 with 45 seconds remaining in regulation. Eger also assisted on a first-period goal from Russ Demo to give the SJHL a 2-1 lead.

Williams finished the tournament with two goals and three assists in five games. Eger had two assists in five games. Ward had three assists and a plus-six rating in the tournament.
