Broncos lose in overtime

The Swift Current Broncos lost 4-3 in overtime to the visiting Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday.

Anthony Wilson opened the scoring 6:04 into regulation when he backhanded a rebound into an open net for his fourth goal of the season as the Broncos outshot the Rebels 13-10 in the opening stanza. 

The Rebels tied the game seven minutes into the second period when Ty Coupland scored on a five-on-three man-advantage against his former team. Peyton Kettles scored in his first game with the Broncos this season during four-on-four play to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead with a glove-side shot. 

Jaxon Fuder tied the game for Red Deer early in the third period with a power pay goal. Owen Shadrick gave the Rebels their first lead midway through the period, but Wilson sent the game to overtime with his second goal of the game.

Matthew Gard scored 1:03 into a pedestrian overtime period with a perfect shot for the Rebels.

Aiden Eskit improved to 0-2-1-0 with 21 saves for the Broncos. Chase Wutzke improved to 3-4-0-0 with 30 saves. 

The Broncos fell to 6-3-1-0, while Red Deer improved to 3-8-0-0.

The Broncos will visit the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday and host the Raiders on Saturday.
