U18 AAA Wildcats playing for gold at Canadian Crown

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats will play in the championship game for a second straight year at the Canadian Crown Tournament in Devon, AB.

The Wildcats won their first four games to earn a date with the Lloydminster Steelers in the gold medal game on Monday.

The Wildcats opened the round robin with a 4-3 win over the Thompson Okanagan Lakers on Friday. They trailed 1-0, led 2-1 and trailed 3-2 in the third period before scoring the final two goals to pull out the win. Charlize Hillmer scored with 1:06 remaining to clinch the win.

Ashley Vezeau made 23 saves in the win. Jalaa Jagow scored twice, while Raela Packet added a goal and an assist. Rowyn Baptist, Stevie Christiaens, and Laynee Rondeau all registered assists.

They followed up with a 5-2 win over the Rocky Mountain Raiders on Saturday. Emilee Klapak made 36 saves on 38 shots.

Christiaens scored twice, Hayden Hilbig had a goal and an assist, and Rondeau added two assists. Packet and Ella Schenher also scored.

Madden Rublee, Kapri Darby, Piper Arntsen, Reese Kampen, and Jagow all added assists.

The Wildcats wrapped up the round robin with a convincing 10-0 win over OHA Penticton.

Rublee led the way with two goals and two assists. Rondeau added two goals and one assist, while Jagow also scored twice.

Sienna Watson, Iralyn Calkins, Christiaens, and Darby all added one goal and one assist.

Kassie Gryde assisted on two goals, while Schenher, Hilbig, and Arntsen all added one assist each. Vezeau earned the shutout with 13 saves.

The Wildcats advanced to the gold medal game with a 5-1 win over the Red Deer Chiefs on Sunday. The Wildcats trailed after one period before scoring five unanswered goals, including four power play goals.

Schenher led the Wildcats with two goals and one assist. Christiaens and Packet both added one goal and one assist, while Hillmer registered two assists. Jagow also scored in the win. Klapak made 32 saves in the win.
