The City of Swift Current is advising residents of upcoming concrete work on the 2nd Avenue NE Overpass, scheduled to take place from Tuesday, August 26 to Friday, August 29, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM daily.
To ensure public safety and allow crews to complete the necessary upgrades, the pedestrian sidewalk on the Overpass will be closed during working hours. A detour map has been provided to guide pedestrians along alternate walking routes, and SwiftTransit will offer free transit rides to assist pedestrian traffic traveling between the south side of the City and the downtown transit stop. Transit stops and their arrival/departure times are clearly marked on the detour map.
In addition to sidewalk closures, the project will require periodic single-lane traffic closures on the Overpass to facilitate the concrete work. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times, and flag persons will be on-site to direct traffic and ensure safe passage. The lane closures may be intermittent and varying durations, depending on the work being conducted below deck.
Residents may not observe construction activity or crews on the Overpass surface during the project. This is because the project is being conducted inside the concrete abutments, where crews are actively progressing with the upgrades.
The City acknowledges that this project may cause temporary inconvenience and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to maintain and improve our infrastructure.
