Southwest athletes in action at Canada Games

The second half sports are well underway at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Swift Current’s Carter Tuplin and Rowan Reimer both qualified for the final in the 400 Metres Hurdles. Tuplin won his heat in 55.93 seconds. Reimer was third in his heat in 55.94 seconds. The final will be Friday evening at the Fortis Canada Games Complex.

Both Tuplin and Reimer helped Saskatchewan place third in their heat in the 4×400 Metre Relay. Saskatchewan will run in the final on Saturday evening.

Saskatchewan’s men’s volleyball team won their first two matches. Saskatchewan, featuring Lucky Lake’s Kash Meyers, won their opening match 25-22, 25-13, 25-21 over Newfoundland on Tuesday. Wednesday, they defeated British Columbia in four sets (20-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-18).

Saskatchewan will face Quebec on Thursday to wrap up the round robin.

Saskatchewan is also 3-0 in men’s box lacrosse. Swift Current is represented by goaltender Kai Foster. They defeated Prince Edward Island 18-1 on Tuesday. Foster earned a 5-3 win over Manitoba on Wednesday morning. Saskatchewan defeated New Brunswick 7-3 that evening.

They will battle the host team on Thursday to wrap up the round robin.

Swift Current’s Navy Louma has started both games for the Saskatchewan women’s soccer team. Saskatchewan lost to Alberta 5-1 on Tuesday and lost 2-1 to the host team on Wednesday. They will play in a placement game on Saturday morning.
