Swift Current’s Dior Stringer has committed to the Bemidji State University Beavers women’s hockey team for the 2026-27 season.
“Obviously it’s super exciting. This is an opportunity that not very many people get. For me to have the opportunity to accomplish something like this in my life, it’s been a dream ever since I was little. Honestly, it’s unreal. It’s been pretty unbelievable for me. I have worked so hard for everything that I have been given. To be rewarded by such an amazing program has just been awesome,” she explained.
Based out of Minnesota, the Beavers compete in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
“We were kind of talking with the coaches and right away we had such a good feeling about them. They were so welcoming. They are actually an all female coaching staff, which is super cool. They had such infectious personalities to all of us and treated our family so well. Right away we knew that their program was heading in the right direction and it just felt right in that moment.”
The Beavers finished with a 6-30-1 overall record in 2024-25.
“They play super hard. They really care about having good connections with their players. Their group is super tight. They are like a family together and it’s once you’re a part of that program you’re in there and you’re stuck there. It’s something I’m super excited to be a part of. On the ice, they work hard, they skate hard, they’re ready to play every game. No matter the outcome, they are always willing to teach you new stuff. Even if you lose they are not there to be disappointed or get mad at you, they are just there to help you learn and develop you into the best player you can be,” explained Stringer.
Stringer tied for the U18 AAA Wildcats lead this past season with 11 goals in 30 regular season games and was second with 20 points. She also scored twice in five playoff outings. After two seasons with the Wildcats, Stringer will head east for her final U18 season with the Stanstead College Spartans in Quebec.
“Yeah it was a big decision to make, moving away from home for sure. I’m just going there to develop as a player and just take my game to the next level. I was ready for the next step and I’m ready to take that jump and become the best player I can be and expose myself to great players out there and playing with new people and having that opportunity to go and build my game and become stronger and faster.”
She is hoping to refine her game in Quebec, before joining the NCAA ranks.
“Definitely my puck play down low. Just being super quick grabbing the puck on the wall and cutting to the net. I want to create a lot more offense for myself and just being super quick with my hands and shooting to score every time I have the chance.”
Dior continues to follow in her family’s footsteps on the ice. Her dad, Rej Stringer,
played Division I hockey at Merrimack College.
“Following in his footsteps has been a super cool experience for me. Going on an unofficial visit was almost like him reliving a moment that he got to experience in life and doing it with his daughter. Having someone that has so much wisdom about the game and just knowing everything and just being surrounded by, my family has been amazing to me. My dad has been unreal, always there for me and always supporting me. His experience with the game is like no other and having that to support me through it all has been amazing.”
