Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess won the Notah Begay III Junior Golf Canadian Western Championship on August 18-19 at Dakota Dunes Golf Links near Saskatoon.
He won the Boys 16-18 Division at 12-under over two rounds for a nine-shot victory. Schmiess shot a 64 on day one and 66 on day two.
Kyle’s Jace Wills tied for 17th with rounds of 79 and 80.
Swift Current’s Jace Munro tied for third in the Boys 14-15 Division. He carded rounds of 76 and 77 to finish 13 shots off the lead.
Schmiess advanced to the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship in Louisiana from November 6-8 at Koasati Pines at Coushatta, a tournament that will be national televised on The Golf Channel.
