Legionnaires split opening weekend

The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires split their opening weekend of the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League regular season against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Saturday, the Legionnaires fell 5-2 in Moose Jaw. Mason Fauser and Jace Egland scored with an assist from Connor Rieger. Evan Hutcheon took the loss with 28 saves.

Sunday, the Legionnaires answered with a 6-3 win at home over the Warriors when they finished two-for-five on the power play and killed off all three shorthanded situations.

Egland led the way with one goal and two assists, followed by two goals from Trae Peterson. Wesley Olson added one goal and one assist, while Sam Kirwan had two assists.

Porter Nickason and Will Kirwan also scored. Jake Hargrave, Carter Moen, Rieger, and Kai Packet all added assists. Cade Mitchell earned the win with 37 saves on 40 shots.

The Legionnaires will visit the Tisdale Trojans for two games next weekend.
