Kyle’s Chloe Wills won the Maple Leaf Golf Tour stop in Swift Current over the May Long weekend as she put together three strong rounds despite unfavorable weather conditions. Wills opened action in the 15-19 Girls Division with an 80 on Saturday for a three-shot lead. She shot a 79 on day two to maintain her lead and then pulled away with a 69 on day three for a 13-shot win.
Swift Current’s Niya Friesen was second in the 15-19 Girls Division. She carded an 83 on day one and then posted identical rounds of 79 on Sunday and Monday.
Swift Current’s Kayden Meyer placed fifth in the U15 Girls Division. She carded rounds of 100, 103, and 98.
Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess placed sixth in the Bantam Boys Division. He had rounds of 76, 73, and 78 to finish seven shots back of the lead. Kyle’s Jace Wills was ninth after rounds of 81, 76, and 78. Max Gehl, also of Swift Current, tied for 15th with rounds of 88, 95, and 83. Shaunavon’s Kellen Ross tied for 17th with rounds of 90, 93, and 89. Shaunavon’s Colter Cruthers finished 30th with rounds of 111, 108, and 120.
Swift Current’s Makstr McIntyre and Ryder Woods tied for eighth in the Junior Boys Division as both golfers had identical rounds of 78, 79, and 76. Maple Creek’s Cameron Schwab placed 28th with rounds of 88, 85, and 79.
Swift Current’s Ayden Ross finished tied for 13th in Juvenile Boys. He carded rounds of 83, 73, and 87.
A MJT Mini Tour event was also held on Saturday. Swift Current’s Jace Munro led the local contingent in second spot in the Boys 11-12 Division. Munro carded an 84 to finish seven shots off the lead of Melville’s Keaton Kreklewich. Maple Creek’s Lachlan Williams placed fifth with a 107 at the Elmwood.
Herbert’s Jameson Fox placed third in the Boys 8U Division with a 135.
The next MJT event in Saskatchewan will be at the Wildwood Golf Course in Saskatoon on June 1-2.
