Southwest track stars compete at Sask/Manitoba Dual Meet

A handful of the Southwest’s top track and field athletes represented Saskatchewan at the Sask/Manitoba Dual Meet in Regina on July 21-23.

Swift Current’s Carter Tuplin participated in four U18 events, highlighted by a record in the 4×400 Metres Mixed Relay in 3:43.19.

He also won the 400 Metre Hurdles in 56.28 seconds. Tuplin placed second in the 110 Metre Hurdles in 16.06 seconds. He was fourth in the 400 Metres in 51.42 seconds.

Swift Current’s Olami Akinforesoye won the U18 Girls High Jump when she cleared the bar at 1.58 metres. She also placed sixth in the Long Jump at 4.78 metres. Akinfiresoye was sixth in the 100 Metre Dash preliminaries in 12.76 seconds and then placed eighth in the finals in 13.29 seconds.

Swift Current’s Kyler Duclos placed second in both of his U16 Boys events. He was second in Long Jump with a 5.76-metre effort. He was also second in Triple Jump at 11.84 metres.

Gull Lake’s Brynne Leppa had her best result in U18 Javelin with a 27.95-metre toss for third place. She was also fourth in the Hammer Throw at 26.24 metres. Brynne Leppa also placed seventh in Discus at 24.27 metres and eighth in Shot Put at 9.03 Metres.

Gull Lake’s Brooklyn Leppa was in four U16 Girls events in Regina. Her top finish came in the 80 Metre Hurdles. She was seventh in the preliminaries in 16.15 seconds and then placed sixth overall in the finals in 15.34 seconds. She was also eighth in the 100 Metre Dash prelims in 13.16 seconds and seventh in the finals in 13.40 seconds. Leppa also was eighth in Long Jump in 4.56 metres and ninth in the 200 Metres in 28.33 seconds.
