The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires lost 4-1 to the Calgary Buffaloes to open the Circle K Classic on Tuesday in Calgary.
The Legionnaires trailed 1-0 after one period after Caden Kemkaran-Humble scored for the Buffaloes with seven seconds remaining the opening frame.
The Buffaloes outshot the Legionnaires 9-2 in the second period to take a 4-0 lead. Kemkaran-Humble doubled the lead with a power play goal 32 second into the middle stanza. Jett Patola and Caleb Matthews added goals to widen the lead.
Jack Puckett scored for the Legionnaires late in the third period to ruin the shutout bid with an unassisted goal.
Ty Matonovich made 15 saves to earn the win. Berney Weston took the loss with 20 saves for Swift Current.
The Buffaloes led the Alberta Elite U18 AAA Hockey League with a 19-0-1-1 record.
The Legionnaires will continue the 32-team tournament on Wednesday against the Chicago Mission. They will wrap up the round robin on Thursday against RINK Kelowna.
