The host Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats played a pair of high scoring games against the Regina Rebels over the opening weekend in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League.
The Wildcats tied the opening game twice before allowing three goals in the third period to lose 5-3 on Saturday. Addison Eurich had a goal and an assist, while Jerzey Watteyne and Olivia Kirwan also scored. Ella Wingert, Tess Bakus, and Evangeline Hill all added assists. Paige Fischer made 26 saves in the loss.
Berlin Lolacher scored twice for the Rebels, while Greta Henderson, Ashley Grice, and Stryker Zablocki also scored. Chloe Sorenson made 28 saves to lift the Rebels to the win.
The Wildcats were one-for-six on the power play and the Rebels finished one-for-five on the man-advantage.
Sunday, Karlee Lehner made 44 saves to lead the Wildcats to a 5-4 win over the Rebels.
The Wildcats won the special teams battle with three power play goals, while the Rebels finished one-for-eight on the power play.
Amiyah Jones’ empty net goal wound up being the winner after the Rebels scored a goal with only 18 seconds left on the clock. Eurich and Kirwan each finished with a goal and an assist. Watteyne and Calla Kampen also scored. Wingert, Sadie Keller, and Hill all added assists.
Sorenson took the loss with 28 saves. Grice, Jada Johns, Carys Cross, and Zablocki scored for the Rebels.
The Wildcats will visit the Weyburn Wings for two games next weekend.
