It was home sweet home for Southwest cowboys and cowgirls at the 57th Annual Bob Larson Memorial Indoor Rodeo in Val Marie on Sept. 16-17.
Mankota’s April Williamson won Ladies Barrel Racing close to home in 11.93 seconds for $756. Maple Creek’s Kerry Maynes was fifth in 12.08 seconds for $234. Williamson sat 10th in the event season standings, while Maynes was right behind her in 11th.
Eight Southwest cowboys were a part of the six money-winning combos in Team Roping in Val Marie. Waldeck’s Tyce and Tuftin McLeod won the event in 4.8 seconds for $1,618. Waldeck’s Scott McLeod and Swift Current’s Chad Feil were right behind them in second spot in 4.9 seconds for $1,339. Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer worked with Colter Dunn (Ogema) to place third in 5.0 seconds for $1,060. Consul’s Rylan Brost teamed up with Travis Nickolson (Irvine) to place fifth in 9.6 seconds for $502. Mankota’s Shawn Williamson and Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer were sixth in 11.5 seconds for $279.
Swift Current’s Madison Kovar earned a win in Ladies Breakaway Roping in 3.1 seconds for $678. Kovar was eighth in the event season standings after her 24th rodeo.
Maple Creek’s Kahl Wasilow added a win in Junior Steer Riding with a 72-point ride for $288. He sat third in the season standings after his 10th rodeo.
Mankota’s Kiera Williamson also won Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 12.23 seconds for $234. Eastend’s Juanita Humphrey was fourth in 16.99 seconds for $58. Williamson led the season standings, while Humphrey was eighth.
Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist posted two of the top four scores in Saddle Bronc in Val Marie. He was third with 76 points on Cross Words for $360. Gilchrist was also fourth with 75 points on Wild Times for $180. The veteran cowboy led the All Around Standings with over double the prize money of his next closest competitor. He was second in the Saddle Bronc standings behind only Tyler Winters (Boissevain). Jeffery Aidan (Wilcox) won the event with 80 points on Sounds Good.
Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld was second in his hometown rodeo in Tie Down Roping in 10.1 seconds for a $453 payday. Shawn Williamson followed in fifth spot in 10.6 seconds for $170. Williamson sat fifth in the season standings, while Kornfeld was 14th. Scott Sigfusson (Tugaske) won the event in 9.6 seconds.
Three Southwest cowboys finished in the top five in Steer Wrestling in Val Marie. Maple Creek’s Tate Beierbach was second in 3.9 seconds for $432. Gilchrist tied for third in 4.5 seconds for $297. Kyle’s Chad Hantelman was fifth in 4.6 seconds for $162. Sigfusson won the event in 3.8 seconds. Hantelman was 13th in the season standings, Gilchrist was 16th, and Beierbach sat 21st.
Kincaid’s Jud Colliness rode Pickle Rick for 78 points to place fourth in Bull Riding as he collected $425. Colliness was eighth in the Bull Riding event season standings. Jake Maher (Rocky View, AB) won the event with 87 points on Iodine.
Tuftin McLeod was second in the Canadian High Point Award standings, trailing only Sigfusson. Tyce McLeod was third, while Tee McLeod was fifth.
The next CCA event will be Beechy Western Days on Sept 23-25.
