A pair of Swift Current volleyball products won bronze with Red Deer Polytechnic at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball national championships.
Setter Brett Theise was a member of the Kings, who won the Alberta Colleges Athletic Associaiton South Division with a 12-4 match record. They defeated NAIT in the league championship match on March 12.
The Kings lost their opening match 3-2 to the host team at Nationals, which were hosted by Cégep Limoilou in Quebec City.
Saturday, the Kings defeated the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers in three straight sets.
The Kings defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 3-0 in the bronze medal match on Sunday.
The 6’0’’ setter appeared in 36 ACAC regular season sets and was second on the team with 183 assists. He also had six kills, six blocks, 19 digs, and five service aces.
Avery Tonnies is a 5’11’’ outside hitter in her first season with the Queens in Red Deer.
The womens team finished 16-0 in the regular season. They defeated Lakeland College 3-1 in the ACAC championship match on March 12.
They won their opening match 3-0 over the MSVU Mystics on Friday at Nationals, which were hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI.
Saturday, the Queens lost all three sets to the VIU Mariners.
The Queens swept the Rouges de l’USB 3-0 in the bronze medal match on Sunday.
