It was a memorable day for five Southwest hockey players as they were selected in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft on Wednesday.
Shaunavon’s Kole Lind was the first Southwest player selected in the first round since 2003 when he was selected sixth overall by the Red Deer Rebels after three dominating seasons with the Swift Current Pure Chem Bantam AA Broncos. He was third in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League scoring this season with 120 points in 27 games.
Swift Current’s Anthony Wilson was next at 59th overall when the Victoria Royals grabbed him in the third round. The 5’8’’ centre had 27 points in 29 games with the Northern Alberta Xtreme in the CSSHL.
The Swift Current Broncos snagged Shaunavon’s Nolan Stevenson in the fourth round, 67th overall. Stevenson finished with 21 points in 30 games on the Notre Dame Hounds blueline this season.
Four picks later, the Regina Pats drafted Swift Current’s Carter Herman. The 6’1’’ defenseman notched 39 points in 27 regular season games on the Broncos blueline.
Kyle’s Rylan Williams rounded out the quintet when he was selected in the 11th round by the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Williams finished the regular season with 66 points in 31 games for the Bantam Broncos.
